There are many reasons why a production company, talent agency, movie studio or even an event manager might consider cast insurance. A cast member might become sick or develop some issue that could prevent them from performing. Not having the cast ready when production starts can create considerable financial losses for many individuals and firms involved.
Cast coverage is intended to reimburse the production company for extra expense to complete principal photography due to the death, injury or sickness of any insured artist(s). Coverage can be expanded to include illness, but only after the individual is medically examined. At that time the insurer will extend coverage to include illness. Coverage can also include kidnapping of any artist or director. Coverage can begin up to four weeks prior to filming.
